The Palace of Nostalgia

sat 9 mar 2024 19:00 hour

Music from bygone eras. Featuring: Ella Fitzgerald (‘Bewitched’), Boudewijn de Groot (‘Lied voor een kind dat bang is in het donker’), Perry Como as a balladeer with ‘I’ve Got the World on a String’ and Bob Bouber with the successor to ‘Ik heb genoeg van jou’.

Special attention for a nurse with the blues: Alberta Hunter, who wrote ‘Downhearted Blues’ for Bessie Smith and worked with jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller.

She abruptly withdrew from the music scene and spent decades working as a nurse, but made in her eighties a staggering comeback with a mischievous and suggestive repertoire.

Also featured: Dorothy Dandridge (‘Stay with it’), Marty Paich & Art Pepper + Eleven (‘Four Brothers’).

And: free jazz tenor Albert Ayler, drawing on his religious upbringing with ‘Our Prayer’, Frank Chacksfield and his light orchestra, Fats Domino, The Modernaires.
