Lera Auerbach is a multitalented individual, who conducts her own works for a large orchestra just as easy as she exhibits her paintings and sculptures, or makes a name for herself as a poet. She left for the US at a young age. She herself has called her String quartet no. 3 ‘Cetera desunt’ from 2006 a Sonnet for string quartet.
Caroline Shaw plays with the present and past, with music as a way of communication. In doing so she often uses examples from the past, which she takes out of context and reassembles in an unexpected way. In Entr’acte from 2011 we can hear a menuet by Haydn from opus 77 no. 2, Valencia is the rendering of a bright orange orange, and Plan & Elevation is a musical repercussion of the estate of Dumbarton Oaks in Washington DC.
