Earwitness #80: Van Cliburn. The Cold War knew a peak at the end of 1957 with the successful launch of the first Russian Spóetnik that could start the space race. After this the battle moved to the cultural field with an infiltration in Russia via the Voice of America of the American jazz music, that was spread like “music on the bones” on x-rays and with performances of the best American musicians, among which Glenn Gould in Leningrad and Moscow in 1957. And as the grand finale the International Tsjajkovski concours in 1958.
