In this episode of “Die Sanck een Liedt,” you will notice a program about a composer, but with no works by him to be heard. Robert Dowland is the composer, who was a singer, lutenist, son of his famous father John Dowland, and a collector of songs. He did not become known as a composer but rather for his collection of songs, which were composed by other composers. The lutenist Robert Dowland published his song collection in 1610. The performers are countertenor Andreas Scholl, Edin Karamazov on guitar, lute, and orpharion, Christoph Coin on viola da gamba, and Markus Märkl on harpsichord.
