Newly Released Music

Sometimes, a good idea is wonderfully simple. The first album featured in this programme, released on BIS Records, brings together six representative Finnish compositions for cello written over the past fifteen years. Its title is Echo, or Kaiku in Finnish. Simple as that — at least in theory.
The music also calls for a fine cellist, and Jonathan Roozeman certainly fits the bill. The Finnish-Dutch musician won the National Cello Competition in Amsterdam in 2012 and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015.
