Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.
A treasure hunt in the history of music. Featuring the virile Kay Starr wit her ‘godfather’ violinist Joe Venuti (‘Flyin’ too high’), master guitarist Wes Montgomery (‘Moanin’’) and singer-guitarist Eddy Christiani, including “Yunga, Yunga”, for which he invented a humorous fake English language.
Betty Carter with Ray Bryant’s trio (‘Gone with the wind’), Art Tatum as soloist in ‘Stormy Weather’ and from the colonial past of our southern neighbours Fonseca in an exciting recording about dancing ‘sans chemise et sans pantalon’.
An unknown gem by the Gershwin brothers (‘Let ‘em eat cake’) performed by Emil Coleman’s Riviera Orchestra. Just as exciting, Emilio Caceres with his Hot Club orchestra (‘Alla en Rancho Grando’). And just as precious: Frans Halsema (‘Sandra’).
Some extra attention for Jane Morgan, ‘the American girl from Paris’.
And also: Patsy Cline, The Dinning Sisters, Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd, Jim Reeves,  the orchestra of Xavier Cugat.
In short: we’re going to spend another hour acting like we’re stuck in the past.
