Sacred music. This episode focuses on the 16th-century composer Roland de Lassus, also known as Orlando di Lasso. He is considered one of the most important composers of the late Renaissance.
Roland de Lassus hailed from the Southern Netherlands and spent a significant part of his career in Munich, where he served as Kapellmeister at the court of the Bavarian dukes.
He left behind an impressive body of work. His sacred music alone includes almost 600 motets, around 80 Masses and roughly 100 Magnificats. His music was widely printed during his lifetime and was also preserved in countless manuscripts.
