A few months ago, a crowdfunding campaign was launched to bring a unique release of electronic works by Dutch composer Ton de Leeuw to life.
The initiative was led by sound artist and label owner Sietse van Erve, together with sound artist and mastering and restoration engineer Jos Smolders.
The crowdfunding campaign proves to be a success: Ton de Leeuw’s electronic repertoire was released on 11 September. It’s the first release on the brand-new Dutch Oscillation Series, a sublabel of the renowned Moving Furniture Records. The series aims to bring neglected cultural heritage back to life.
Titled The Electronic Works, the release is available as a four-LP box set and a double CD. It features groundbreaking electronic music spanning eight works, composed between 1956 and 1982.
Ton de Leeuw was a prominent Dutch composer of the 20th century. Alongside composing, he taught composition, contemporary music and non-Western music as a senior lecturer, before becoming artistic director of the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He also wrote books on electronic music, worked as a music director and critic, and presented a radio programme for many years.
I hope you enjoy the music!
