Episode 291 – Unique Recordings by Legendary Female Pianists
In the previous programme, we heard recordings by some legendary male pianists. Today, it is the turn of some legendary female pianists, with recordings dating from the 1940s to the 1970s.
We begin with Dame Myra Hess (pictured) performing a Toccata by Johann Sebastian Bach. Clara Haskil then plays a Mozart piano concerto. Annie Fischer follows with a Beethoven piano sonata, while Monique de Bruchollerie performs a Toccata by Saint-Saëns. Finally, Marcelle Meyer plays the Toccata from Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin.
