The Ssempeke Amadinda Quartet. Recorded at the Tropentheater in Amsterdam on 16 May 2009.
One of the instruments in their repertoire is the amadinda, a large sort of wooden xylophone. ‘Ama’ means ‘large’ and ‘dinda’ means ‘tune’ or ‘tuning’. This large xylophone is usually played by multiple people at once.
The Ssempeke Amadinda Quartet brings music that used to be played at the Royal Court of Buganda. In addition to the amadinda, other instruments are played such as the ennanga (harp), endongo (lyre) and enderre (flute).
