An educational programme with early music. De pardessus de viole, the smallest descendant of the viola da gamba family, was played mainly by noble ladies at the French court in the 18th century. However, only few compositions have been written for this instrument.

In the 18th century, French composer Pierre Hugard wrote a book full of suites especially for the ‘pardessus de viole’, as this smallest viola da gamba is called all over Europe.
This music is performed by Hamburger Ratsmusik with gambist Simone Eckert on the pardessus.
