Clarinet player James Sarrapede – artist’s name Jimmy Lytell (1904-1972). In his youth, he came in contact with the jazz pioneers via his uncle, pianist Frank Signorelli. And as member of the Original Memphis Five, he is even counted among the forgotten pioneers. Between 1925 and 1930, he recorded a trio under his own name for Pathé, and in this broadcast you can follow his development into a big soloist quite carefully.
