Saxophone player David “Fathead” Newman (1933-2009). He started off working mainly with ‘rhythm & blues’ bands. As of 1954, he was part of Ray Charles’ accompaniment orchestra for 12 years. In 1960 and 1961 he recorded some jazz albums for Riverside and Atlantic. In this hour you can hear a selection of those recordings.
