Beethoven’s String Trios
Beethoven’s string quartets are common knowledge. But you rarely hear his string trios. They’re all early works in his career. After he arrived in Vienna, his confidence was boosted by a number of high honour invitations. In his string trios opus 9 especially, you can hear the composer’s self-confidence. It’s not for amateurs, it’s very virtuoso. The last work in the series is in c minor and is fierce and dramatic. A harbinger for his later works.
