Once you start browsing through the rich oeuvre of the English composer Frank Bridge (1879-1941), it’s hard to stop. His versatility leaves you staggered. He was known as an excellent violist and conductor, but he played the piano just as well. Today, we can hear this in his early piano music. There used to be little repertoire for the viola, Bridge did something about that. His pieces vary from virtuoso to salon style. When he was still studying at the conservatory he wrote chamber music in Brahms’ style.
