Concertzender Live

Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender: Dussek, Mozart and Rust

Today in Concertzender Live Classical Music, three friendly works for violin and piano stuck between two classical masterpieces. In fact, as was customary in the second half of the 18th century, the works were for piano with accompaniment of the violin. Yet, in all of the three pieces, of respectively Dussek, Mozart and Rust, we can hear that the violin takes on an increasingly prominent role. Often the tasks of playing melody or accompaniment are shared. The French/Polish/Indian violinist Ajay Ranganathan performs together with the Spanish fortepiano player Laura Fernandez Granero. Anyway, Concertzender Live Classical Music opens with the impressive Divertimento for String Trio of Mozart, KV 563. This piece lasts almost three quarters of an hour, and the composer mixes up a lot of things. According to some, this is without doubt his best composition, in spite of the modest number of instruments, and the title Divertimento. This is no diverting background music, this is Mozart pulling out all the stops and trying to amaze us. Mendelssohn had the same intention with his string quartets. These could take a lot of the composer’s ingenuity so as to make both connoisseurs and enthusiasts relish it. To conclude the programme, you hear Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No.6 by the Yako Quartet, from Lyon.
