Missa etcetera

thu 8 sep 2022 22:00 hour
Composer: Georg Muffat

Western religious music from different centuries: sacred works by Andreas Hofer, who was active in Salzburg in the 17th century.

During the second half of the 17th century, two composers were active in Salzburg who have remained famous to this day: Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber and Georg Muffat.

A third composer never found the same level of fame: Andreas Hofer (1628/29-1684).
From 1654 until his death, he was the royal chaplain bandmaster at the court of prince-archbishop Max Gandolph von Kuenburg and thus also responsible for the music performed in the Salzburg cathedral.
A number of his sacred works can be heard in this programme.
