Successful American jazz and light music of the 20th century, composed primarily for Broadway musicals, musical theater and Hollywood films; Bill Evans 1929-1981.
Even though Bill Evans only lived to be 51 years old, he was one of the most influential pianists of his time. He played beautiful, complex chords (influenced by Ravel and Debussy, among others) and often added lyrical, romantic lines. This combination can also be heard in many of his beautiful compositions that became Standards.
Some of them were very well suited for lyrics, and that is how they ended up in the Great American Songbook!
