The Concertzender at Muze van Zuid – Sunday 14 Sept

The Concertzender will be recording several concerts during the 8th edition of the festival Muze van Zuid,. On the final day, you can experience the following four concerts live at the festival. You can then listen to them again on the Concertzender in the autumn.

Theo Volente: Jazz party in honour of Theo Loevendi

 

Theo Loevendie |  | Orgelpark | 14:15-15:15

He lives on the Johannes Verhulststraat, Café Welling is his local pub, and the Wellingtonians are his bandmates – eminent composer Theo Loevendie turns 95 in a few days. At Muze van Zuid, he’s celebrating this with young talent and his regular team of jazz luminaries: Ketija Ringa Karahona, Guus Janssen, Maarten van der Grinten, David Guerreiro Dominguez, Joost Lijbaart, and Yuri Honing. Theo Loevendie himself will be the host and will play a number of carefully selected pieces at the piano. More information and tickets can be found here.

 

Closing concert Muze van Zuid with three soloists

 

Shannon Lee | Vondelkerk | 20:00-21:00

Top Canadian violinist Shannon Lee is renowned for her impeccable intonation and large, vibrant tone. As a soloist, she has performed with leading orchestras worldwide. At the age of 12, she debuted with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra; two years later, with the Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra. An artistic programme with Vera Beths led her to the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she immersed herself in the Baroque violin and composition.

Joost Willemze | Vondelkerk | 20:00:2100

Leading harpist Joost Willemze won first prize in the national finals of the Princess Christina Competition at 16, and in subsequent years, he also won major international harp competitions. In 2023, he won the prestigious Dutch Classical Talent Award, with the jury describing his playing as “next-level harp.” That same year, he also won the Grachtenfestival Prize and made his solo debut with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra on the main stage of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

 

Maksym Ovsiienko | Vondelkerk | 20:00:2100

Accordionist Maksym Ovsiienko was born in Ukraine and is a classical accordionist renowned for his refined musical interpretations and expressive depth. A laureate of several international competitions, he brings a unique emotional sensitivity to every performance. He completed his professional training at the Odesa Professional College of Arts and takes lessons with accordionist Vincent van Amsterdam.
