Once again, it’s time for chamber music on Radio Romantica. Mendelssohn was only a teenager when he composed his Violin Sonata in F minor. As a prodigy, he let the great masters influence him freely — especially Beethoven.
This was also the case when he composed his second string quartet in 1827 — Mendelssohn was 18 years old at the time and Beethoven had just died. We conclude the programme with an unfinished fragment for violin and piano. The duo Weithaas/Avenhaus were the first to release this work on CD in 2009.
