Festival Jazz on the Sofa in Zeist

fri 26 sep 2025
Theme: Jazz | World Music

The ninth edition of the Jazz On The Sofa Festival will take place in Zeist on Sunday October 12th.

Unique locations in and around Zeist Castle will be transformed into intimate stages where you can experience the artists up close. Six acts will perform at six locations within walking distance of each other. At each location, the musicians will play three half-hour concerts, at 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 5:00 PM. The audience will choose their own route, with plenty of time to walk between each location. In this edition, organiser and flautist Mark Lotz presents musicians who connect jazz with the musical traditions of other regions.

Ad Colen & Margreet Markerink – Jazz meets tango
Jazz saxophonist Ad Colen and pianist Margreet Markerink share a passion for tango. In 2023, they recorded the album Tales of a Blue Heart, featuring original compositions by both of them as well as their own arrangements of pieces by the legendary Astor Piazzolla. Melancholy and joy resonate in this combination of jazz and tango.

Mozes Rosenberg & Anton Goudsmit – Gipsy jazz
Two top Dutch guitarists who have each been performing brilliantly around the world for decades. Mozes Rosenberg is one of the great virtuosos in the European gipsy jazz tradition and Anton Goudsmit is a fixture thanks to his creative and exuberant approach. Original work, gipsy and jazz standards, blues and ballads blend seamlessly between Anton’s electric guitar and Mozes’s acoustic guitar.

Jesse van Ruller & Maarten Hogenhuis – Global jazz
Acclaimed guitarist Jesse van Ruller and saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis—known for their work with BRUUT!, among others—released their second duo album last year: Follow the Sound. Eight organic pieces that transport you to a captivating sonic landscape. Live, the songs take on a new dimension thanks to the virtuosity and musicality for which this duo is known.

Mandala Tribe – Jazz meets India
Mandala Tribe is a groundbreaking ensemble that fuses Indian classical music with jazz and electronics. Ancient Indian ragas are unraveled and reimagined with a contemporary sound. With vocals, keyboards, Moog synthesizer, flutes, and tabla, East and West collide in captivating improvisations. Their debut album will be released this autumn, and Jazz on the Sofa will be a preview!

Fleurine & Elizabeth Fadel – Jazz meets Brazil
Vocalist, composer, and lyricist Fleurine meets Brazilian pianist Elizabeth Fadel. Fleurine’s compositions are influenced by Brazilian jazz, straight-ahead jazz, and Latin music. Elizabeth Fadel grew up in Brazil and came to the Netherlands to study Baroque and Early Music at the Conservatory of The Hague. Besides piano, she is also an accordion virtuoso. This afternoon, they will perform an enchanting repertoire that focuses on women in music.

Michael Moore – Global jazz
A rare, intimate solo performance by this American-born alto saxophonist, clarinetist, composer and improviser. Based in the Netherlands since the 1980s, he has left an indelible mark on the international jazz and improvisation scene. Moore is known for his velvety tone and lyrical expressiveness. His sound instantly touches the heart. His music blends jazz, folk and chamber music with musical traditions from various corners of the globe.
