
American composer, pianist, and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas passed away on Wednesday, April 22 at the age of 81.Luister! on Sunday 26 April at 14:00 CET pays tribute to this great musician.
Michael Tilson Thomas was chief conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. Prior to that, he was conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1988 to 1995.
He was particulalry well-known for performances of the modern American repertoire. For instance, the Ives symphonies (2 and 3) that he recorded with the Concertgebouw Orchestra are considered by many to be the “go-to” recordings.
