The Alexander Beets Quartet brings together four leading musicians from the European jazz scene: Alexander Beets (tenor saxophone), Frán Rodríguez (piano), Marius Beets (double bass) and Sven Rozier (drums). Rooted in the hard-bop tradition yet possessing a contemporary sound, the quartet delivers energetic interplay, soulful melodies and inspired improvisations.

Tenor saxophonist Alexander Beets is widely regarded as one of the leading voices in Dutch jazz. Internationally, he is known as “The Hurricane” due to his powerful sound and impressive stage presence. He has performed across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas, collaborating with countless renowned musicians and orchestras. His acclaimed album Big Sounds reflects his love for the classic tenor saxophone tradition while simultaneously showcasing a fresh, modern take on jazz.

In addition to his work as a performing musician, Beets has played a pivotal role in shaping the Dutch jazz landscape. For over 25 years, he has served as the artistic director of the Amersfoort World Jazz Festival. He also co-founded the World Jazz Network, taught music industry and career development at the Fontys Rockacademie, served as chairman of the Dutch Musicians’ Union (Ntb) and sat on the supervisory board of Buma/Stemra. His lifelong dedication to jazz has earned him international recognition as the “Dutch Jazz Ambassador,” as well as the BIMPro Award for his outstanding contribution to the international professional jazz community.

This live recording for Pocket Concerts showcases four exceptional musicians at the peak of their creativity. Deep swing, lyrical expression and spontaneous musical interaction come naturally together here.
