In the ‘Jazz National’ category, the Edison goes to the Nu Art Orchestra for the album The Tivoli Sessions #1.
Highlights from the jury report:
Nu Art Orchestra. Not your average jazz orchestra, but a group rooted in the here and now. An ensemble with a distinctive, unique artistic signature and top-tier musicians, placing an emphasis on inclusion to drive lasting change in the jazz scene by increasing the visibility of female jazz musicians and composers—without excluding male participants.
Jazz, but with a twist: an orchestra that functions as an improvisational ensemble built on a sense of community. The focus is on collective dynamics rather than a traditional conductor-led hierarchy, fostering a spirit of shared musical autonomy.
With this winning debut album—The Tivoli Sessions #1—the orchestra establishes a strong, distinctive identity through compositions by band members, while simultaneously sending a powerful and important message to the jazz scene regarding the prevailing gender balance in the genre.
