In Re:light on Thursday 12 November 23;00 CET you can listen to the 9th episode of our series on Dutch cassette culture. The time the focus is on De Fabriek.
De Fabriek is a dynamic collective of sound artists based in Zwolle that has been active since 1977. They have released an extensive body of work including cassettes, vinyl and CDs that presents their idiosyncratic approach to audio and their playful use of various media. De Fabriek is often regarded as a genre unto itself. In this programme we revisit the collective’s early years and the first cassette releases that began appearing in 1980.
Richard van Dellen joins the programme to discuss his time as a member of the collective. During those formative years, he first began experimenting with sound and used the music cassette as the perfect medium for both creating and distributing his music.
