Texas Trails – over singer-songwriters Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt en anderen uit hun kring. In de jaren 60 werd in Texas een nieuw soort countrymuziek geboren. Tenminste, als je het afzet tegen de commerciële, gladde country die toen uit Nashville kwam. Je had Willie Nelson (en Waylon Jennings, en nog anderen) die het wat ruigere 'outlaw country' lanceerde en daarnaast was er in Houston een jongere generatie singer-songwriters bezig om van songwriting een kunst te maken. Guy Clark (1941-2016) was een sleutelfiguur in die singer-songwriters' scene. Ze maakten sobere, akoestische muziek vol Texaanse roots, blues en folk. Clark en zijn vriend en collega Townes Van Zandt (1944-1997) weigerden concessies te doen aan de commercie – en dat hoor je.
