The Electronic Frequencies programme of 14th May will be dedicated to the 12.5 year anniversary of programme maker Mike Kramer. On 14th November 2012 he delivered his first programme for Concertzender. Many more would follow.
Thanks to his excellent knowledge and feeling for the content and an extensive collection of music carriers in his own collection, many artists, composers, producers and musicians from various (sub)genres have been featured in his programmes. For example, he found a nice balance between, among others, Klankkunst, Musique Concrete and Electro Acoustic music.
Given the number of makers who have collectively contributed to an almost endless stream of music carriers, the aforementioned genres can no longer be called a niche. That is why the mark that has been left behind is too important and we can certainly speak of a significant contribution to musical heritage. The latter has often been the starting point for Mike Kramer when compiling his programmes.
76 programmes preceded it. Composers and makers from various countries were featured alternately. Recently, attention has been paid regularly to Scandinavian makers and pioneers from Belgium and France. Unfortunately, some artists also exchanged the earthly for eternity. As a result, names such as Pauline Oliveros, Mika Vainio, Peter Rehberg, Huub de Bode and Phill Niblock were given special tributes.
Looking back, we can recognise two common themes ; a lot of attention has been paid to the Belgian Sub Rosa label in particular, which features leading work by pioneers from the electro-acoustic corner . Mike has also paid a lot of attention to home-grown makers. “Rightly so,” he says himself. “The Netherlands has made a very important contribution to the musical heritage through genres such as experimental and electro-acoustic music (think of makers such as Henk Badings, Horst Rickels and Ton Bruynel). But successive generations also frequently passed by with names such as Paul Devens, Orphax, Frans de Waard, Glice, Roel Meelkop, Hans Van Koolwijk, The Void Pointers, Machinist, Gert-Jan Prins, Radboud Mens, Staplerfahrer, Machinefabriek and Jos Smolders. The list is long.
In the broadcast of 14 May, programme maker Mike Kramer will once again pay attention to makers from our own country. Let yourself be surprised!
