Bach Ad Infinitum

A weekday programme about the oeuvre of Johann Sebastian Bach with producer Govert Jan Bach and host Joop van Zijl. Episode 411: the start of a new week, themed: No Bach without Luther. 31 October 2016 is the start of the Luther or Reformation year, which continues through 2017.

Maarten Luther (1483-1546) was a colourful and original person who radically changed world history. By his translations, he made German a language to be taken seriously and gave the music a boost by propagating the choral, the song to be sung by all.

Luther played a decisive role in the life of Bach, both in faith as in attitude to life. He arranged almost all Luther’s songs for organ many times.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we will play the entire Klavierübung part III performed by Stefani Molardi and on Thursday and Friday we will play Bach’s so-called Lutheran masses.
