Old and new French music. Twenty five years after his unexpected death, we commemorate Yves Montand (1921-1991) with a concert he gave in Moscow in 1956.
A controversial performance, right after the troops of the Warsaw Pact re-invaded Hungary. At the time, Montand was still a communist, but after talking with party leader Khruschev he supposedly expressed his discontent about aggressive Sovjet policies. He opened his performances with the anti-militaristic ‘Quand un soldat’ by Francis Lemarque.
