The Palace of Nostalgia

sat 14 jan 2017 13:00 hrs

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

Today with Ella Fitzgerald, who mocks her own old hit ‘A Tisket, a Tasket during a live performance’. Special attention to Johnny Meijer, since it is 25 years ago, on 8 January, that this brilliant accordion player passed away. Furthermore, a fairly new talent, Melody Gardot, who sings a vibrating duet with Raphael Gualazzi from the Disney film ‘The Jungle Book’. Rosemary & Betty Clooney are enjoying themselves with a song about an ever-busy phone line. June Christy with The Kentones, a high-spirited orchestra from the ‘Roaring Twenties’ and also a singing entertainer with an exceptional lang career, from 1904 to 1984, Molly Picon, who mainly worked the Yiddish theater circuit and excelled in telling comical stories over music. We can hear hear being ‘Busy, busy’, like most of us are nowadays. A song that never grows old, is ‘Stranger on the Shore’, heard in the original version by clarinetist Mr. Acker Bilk and in a bossa nova performance of ‘cool’ Chris Connor. Radiating melancholy in the sung ‘Adíos Juvenstud’ by the South American orchestra of Francisco Canaro with vocals by Ernesto Famá, a farewell to childhood. Just als melancholic is the ‘Ballad of the trumpet player’ by trumpet player and vocalist Nini Rosso. And also focus on Debbie Reynolds and Leo Marjane.
