The Wandering Microphone

sat 18 feb 2017 22:00 hrs

Field recordings and historical recordings by Jan Kruit and Maxim Chapochnikov.

CD cover “Magyarpalatka”

Tonight, the instrumental and dancing music from Magyarpalatka, a small town in Transylvania, Romania, where many Hungarians and Gypsies reside. Magyarpalatka was mentioned for the first time in written sources in 1296 and was part of Hungary until 1920. Throughout the centuries, a unique mix of Romanian, Gypsy, Hungarian music developed here, with even some Saxon influences. We will be listening to field recordings, published in Hungary by Hungaroton Classic in 1996 under the name “Hungarian Folk Music From Transylvanian Heath”.
