Acoustic Roots

sat 29 apr 2017 22:00 hour

In our ‘living room’, Karin van den Boogaert and Carolien Cleiren receive all manner of World Music performers.

The Folk Road Show is an international musical collective, consisting of five singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists from New Zealand, Canada and the Netherlands. Each member contributes to the repertoire with their writing, and they take turns in singing the lead vocals. They alternate between the guitar, banjo, mandolin, trombone and the drums. Their harmonies are exceptionally strong and they have been compared with Crosby, Stills and Nash. The band started by building on the dream of friends Benjamin James Caldwell (NZ) and Olaf Caarls (NL), but didn’t take shape until Canadian folk/pop singer Dominique Fricot and Dutch songwriter Pieter van Vliet joined the two.

This led to a European tour in 2014, a Canadian and another European tour in 2015, and to recording their debut album in Lethbridge, Alberta. This album was released in August of 2016 by the American label Classic Waxxx Records.

The members of The Folk Road Show are:

  • Benjamin Caldwell – vocals, various instruments
  • Olas Caarls – vocals, guitar, harmonica
  • Dominique Fricot – vocals, guitar
  • Pieter van Vliet – vocals, trombone
  • Nick Petrowich – drums
