sat 20 may 2017 07:00 hour

World music, with Cemil Qocgiri (Turkey), Piri Reis (Crete) and Tamikrest (Mali).

1- Cemil Qocgiri.
Zalal is the fifth studio album of German multi instrumentalist and composer Cemil Qocgiri. Cemil is considered one of the best performers on the tanbur, a Kurdish long-necked lute. On this album, Cemil combines old Anatolian musical influences with western chamber music. He also uses rare Zazaki vocals from the Zaza Kurds of East Turkey, which is one of the oldest languages in Mesopotamia.

2- Piri Reis.
This album is the result of a six-day mission to Crete, where five musicians recorded six modal compositions written by Michiel van der Meulen in past years. Its an expedition into the world of modal music, inspired by the maqam music from Istanbul. Maqam music is seen as the high point of many modal traditions from the Ottoman Empire.

3- Tamikrest.
Their latest album Kidal, was named after the home town of the West African band, an often disputed city in the outstretched deserts in Northern Mali. Kidal has been the region’s cultural centre for years and although the region is often plagued by riots and war, is has also been a source of strength for the Toeareg people who inhabit it. This album is a tribute to Kidal and all who live there. The band is in great shape and the members show their best selves.
