Benito Merlino was a poet, composer, journalist, writer and film director born in Filicudi, a small island in the province of Messina. He tried to keep his ethnological memory, myths, legends and musical traditions alive. With a sulfur-like voice he sings stories about the aeolian islands, tuna and swordfish, coral, Barbarossa pirates, the maffia, emigration, the poor and the mighty and beggars and emperors who are all united in destiny’s web, just as the plan of departure and return.
