Fourth World vol. 2: Dream Theory In Malaya by Jon Hassell.
Trumpet player Jon Hassell was the founder and master of the musical aesthetics he called Fourth World. In his own words: ‘A united primitive/futuristic sound that combines ethnic styles from all over the world with advanced electronic techniques.’ His album ‘Fourth World (vol. 2): Dream Theory In Malaya’ was named after a paper by anthropologist Kilton Stewart, who visited the Senoi, a remarkable highland tribe of Malaysian aboriginals, in 1935. The Senoi’s happiness and well-being are connected to family dream stories, which are taught to neighbouring tribes in order to create a closer relationship which exceeds their usual differences.

Lahko Sem Glinena Mesojedka by the trio Sirom.
The exotically titled album ‘Lahko Sem Glenina Mesojedka’ (I Can Be A Clay Snapper) by the Slovenian band Sirom is definitely worth discovering. Sirom is a trio of the three multi-instrumentalists Iztok Koren, Ana Kravanja and Samo Kutin. A shared quest for new sounds is at the basis of this album. Using a large number of folky instruments, and sometimes a great deal of fantasy, the trio delivers a special album made up from five compositions that form a whole.

High Words by the Jewish Monkeys.
The Jewis Monkeys are the masters of the absurd, musicians and comedians who deliver an exciting show. They love to break ethnical and religious taboos by liberating outbursts of satire. Their neo-Yiddish sound fusion ranges between circus-like chansons and energetic punk driven pop. They don’t make jokes at the expense of others, but follow the great tradition of comedians such as Jerry Lewis, Woody Allen, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, who mastered the fine art of self-mockery. These Jewish entertainers are the Jewish Monkey’s role models.
