Hummel revisited

thu 15 feb 2018 11:00 hrs

Part XXXVIII (End)

Astonishment about the beauty of a totally unknown string quartet via the car radio lead to a three year thorough investigation, a worldwide hunt on publications and CDs with his music and… 38 hours of radio, titled ‘Herkansing voor Hummel’. Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was once the most famous composer of Europe, but soon after he passed away he was forgotten. Today will go about his final days. Despite his health problems, there are still some pieces he’s able to compose. He writes an interesting and partially groundbreaking series of piano etudes op.125. An example to Chopin, great admirer of Hummel. A selection of that with a single reference to etudes which Chopin has grafted on those of Hummel. And an elegant and virtuous work for violin and piano.
