Coleman Hawkins (1904-1969) became the first great tenor saxophonist in the jazz and made records from 1922. First for a short while with singer Mamie Smith, then for years with the band of Fletcher Henderson. Hawkins was the most important soloist in Fletcher Henderson’s band, until Louis Armstrong joined them. Recordings from the years 1923-1925.
