Tenor saxophone player Hank Mobley (1930 – 1986) grew up in Newark, New Jersey. When he started out as a musician he played with several R & B groups. After that he was asked by drummer Max Roach to join his group. In 1955 he joined the Art Blakely’s Jazzmessengers, a group that was initially led by pianist Horace Silver.
As of 1957 he recroded his first records for
Blue Note, prior to that he had already recorded several albums for, among others, Savoy.
