Genius Music Friends part XI, on Mozart and Haydn.

By 1789 Mozart found himself in a sticky situation financially and he traveled to Berlin with high hopes. The Prussian king, who was devoted to the arts, had given Boccherini and Haydn so many well-paid composition commissions that it was Mozart’s great hope that he could benefit as well. During the long carriage ride from Vienna to Berlin he made several stops along the way in order give concerts. Today we will listen to some of the magnificent pieces he played in Dresden and Leipzig.

1. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Divertimento in E Flat KV 563 Deel II Augustin Dumay, violin, Gérard Caussé, alt, Gary Hoffman, cello.

2. Johann Sebastian Bach: Motet Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied BWV 225 Part I Collegium Vocale Gent conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.

3. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano concerto in B Flat KV 456 Part I Richard Goode, piano Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

4. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: from Le Nozze di Figaro KV 492: Cavatina: ‘L’ho perduta…’(Barbarina) Patricia Petitbon, soprano Concerto Köln conducted by Daniel Harding
