Soul Jazz from the fifties, sixties and seventies: THE CHAMP. Tonight, the final episode of our five-part series on the popular and influential organ player Jimmy Smith. Jimmy Smith had a close musical connection with guitar player Kenny Burrell. At the end of the 1960s Smith consolidated his status as a star with a number of soul and funk albums. After staying out of the limelight for a while, the Hammond organ and Jimmy Smith enjoyed a comeback during the 1990s. Jimmy Smith passed away in 2005.
