Music today from two Malagasy guitar virtuosos. Fifty-year-old Damily is one of the best guitarists in Madagaskar, together with D’Gary, who has predominantly been playing as a member of the Toko Telo trio [pictured] these past few years. Both men developed a unique style of guitar playing, as from a young age they were trying to imitate the sound of distinctive Malagasy string instruments such as the valiha and the marovány. The big difference between Damily and D’Gary is that D’Gary mostly plays acoustic, while Damily likes to play the electric guitar.
