The Source of Sound 43. The independence of Nigeria
In 1960 Nigeria became independent after a century of colonial occupation by Great-Britain and it was celebrated with a single which was especially released for this occasion. A highlife song Nigerian Independence of the Tex Dandies Dance Band. It was released by Philips West African Records, an important player on the Nigerian vinyl music market. This Source of Sound is about the independence of Nigeria, the role of Philips as a record company and the musical diversity of their local releases in Nigeria which were still remastered and pressed in the Netherlands in the beginning.
