Los Fronterizos, episode three (of five): Conjunto Folklórico Salteño

No, this time there will be no tango, but folklore from Argentina. They were compared to The Beatles; only, The Beatles reached the top of the ‘música popular’, while Los Fronterizos reached the top of the ‘música folklórica’. With the ‘Misa Criolla’ of Ariel Ramírez they wrote history worldwide, but this Misa represents only a fraction of their enormous repertoire.

How four schoolboys with a hobby and each a different future ahead of them could turn into true folk heroes and representatives of the ‘música national’. The Concertzender will pay elaborate attention to them in a five-part musical documentary. The first part is an ‘overview’ of their almost 50-year existence, which was broadcasted on 4 March 2016 and can still be listened to.

The remaining parts cover a certain period of time. Part five, for instance, sheds light on the last period, in which they desperately try to maintain the first legendary 25 years.

Part two was broadcasted on 3 May. Listen here.

Today part three, the first years with record label Philips from 1959 till 1965. The ensemble consisted then of: Gerardo Ramón López, Juan Carlos Moreno, Eduardo Madeo and César Isella. Part four will be broadcasted next month with the successor of César Isella, Yayo Quesada till the split of the successful quartet.
