Series about and with Catalan gambist and conductor Jordi Savall. In today’s programme, we will play parts of 2 of the latest CDs by Savall: ‘W.A. Mozart – Le Testament Symphonique’ and, on Bach’s day of death, ‘J.S. Bach – Markus Passion’.
Just as in the previous episode, we highlight the late Mozart. With ‘Le Concert des Nations’ on the double-CD ‘Le Testament Symphonique’ Jordi Savall focusses on the last three symphonies of the composer who in those days had fallen out of favour with the audience and the Maecenas. We will play parts of symphony 40 and 41.
We also commemorate Bach’s death on 28 July 1750, with parts of the reconstruction of his St Mark Passion. Savall’s reconstruction is based on that of the German musicologist Alexander Grychtolik.
