Armenian Songs by Ilda Simonian and music by Duduk player Djivan Gasparyan.

Ilda Simonian, born in Istanbul and living in Amsterdam, discovered her love for singing at a very young age. The melancholic Armenian songs. The perfectionism she pursues during her performances underlines her professionalism. Armenian music also has a folk genre, in addition to the liturgical songs. You need a completely different technique for that. The songs on this album are the songs she encountered during her musical journey through Turkey, from Istanbul to Hayasdan, in places like Erzurum and Adana.

Duduk player Djivan Gasparyan has been honored with many prizes: the title: “People’s artist of Armenia”. He won four gold medals at world competitions organized by UNESCO, he played, among other things, on Peter Gabriel’s soundtrack for the Martin Scorcese film “The last temptation of Christ”. Djivan Gasparyan has greatly enriched the western public with his playing on this beautiful instrument. The age-old duduk is a kind of oboe made from apricot wood and it has a brown tinted, warm, soft, somewhat nasal timbre. Like no other instrument, the duduk plays the emotions of Armenian people.
