So, you love music from South America?

But that means, we know next to nothing yet. South America is immense. Maybe you love the Argentinian tango, zamba and cueca or the Bolivian taiquirari and huyno. Or do you prefer to listen to sambas or baións from Brazil? Maybe you like tonadas and cuecas from Chili. But then again, there’s also the Colombian bambucos and joropos or the Ecuadorian pasillo or pascalle. Let’s also not forget the guaranias and polkas from Paraguay and the valses and festejos from Peru. But maybe, it is the music from Uruguay, its tangos and candombes, you prefer or the pasajes and joropos from Venezuela.

All these different countries each have many different forms of traditional music. We haven’t even mentioned Cuba or Puerto Rico or the music from Mexico which is also classified as South American music. It gets a bit confusing, doesn’t it. That’s what Alfonso Chacón thought, too! That’s also the reason that this guitar player, teacher, performer, arranger and composer, who is currently living in Chicago (Illinois), formed a guitar quartet with some of his students. He wished to bring them into contact with the enormous wealth of acoustic guitar music from the several South American countries. The name of this quartet is Los Guitarristas.
