The Palace of Nostalgia

tue 4 feb 2020 11:00 hour
Composers: Mel Tormé | Nat King Cole

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

A cool Palace today, with music by Mel Tormé and Chet Baker. Mel Tormé, who started his career with little vibrato in his voice, and Chat Baker, who was already a part of the ‘cool’ crowd as a trumpet player when he started his singing career. Where Tormé’s smooth vocals and astonishing craftmanship were often criticized as lacking emotion, Chet Baker knew how to hit the right emotions with his quiet voice.

Also music by minimalist Bobby Troup, who sang like he had a cold and was hiding under a blanket. Followed by Nat King Cole and Woody Herman with their ‘cool’ witty parody ‘Mule train’.
