Bach Ad Infinitum

thu 12 mar 2020 13:00 hour

Episode 794. In this weeks’ episodes: cantatas, Bach arrangements and at the end of the week requests by fans of Bach. Today: the parody cantata “Erhöhtes Fleisch Und Blut” BWV 173, the second violin partita on piano, concerto for oboe and violin BWV 1060R and Noa sings ‘Letters to Bach’.

Because of the busy Whitsun time in 1724, Bach decided to fall back on congratulatory cantatas. BWV 173 is entirely a parody on the birthday cantata ‘Durchlauchtster Leopold’ (BWV 173a, 1717).

Read more about this cantata (in Dutch).
