The String Quartet

wed 11 mar 2020 11:00 hour

Today, we start with the festive finale of Dvorák’s String Quartet no. 13 in G major opus 106, followed by his String Quartet No. 14 in A flat major opus 105. This was his last completed work. Some people who study Dvoráks music believe that this work still bears some marks of his stay in America, but that is ‘wishful thinking’. This quartet is a genuine Bohemian work and expresses his longing for his homeland while living in America. Once back home, the work also reflects his everlasting bond with Bohemia!

We close this programme with three pieces from Cypresses, composed in 1865 en arranged for quartet in 1887.
