Jan de Vries: the Dutch Bing Crosby
Jan de Vries was called ‘the Dutch Bing Crosby’. In this week’s Palace we’ll listen to this forgotten heartthrob, who with his supple voice caused a furore with the excellent orchestras of Ernst van ‘t Hoff and Dick Willebrandts, and who was also a favourite (guest) vocalist with The Ramblers. Still, his career only lasted for a short time.
He could croon, he could swing, he could sing as easily in English or French as he did in Dutch, but shortly after the war he gave up singing and opted for a position at KLM, Royal Dutch Airlines.
A tribute to one of the best singers in Dutch music history.
